The world we are living in has so much to offer. On to the name of ease we made electronic devices, which help us in your daily life. Considering life without those devices, to which we are addicted most, is miserable. In this age, as we see young or old, child or adult everyone is so addicted to these devices, now it seems like, that they can’t even breathe without them. After so much evaluation in the field of mechanics, we often see the discussion that machines are better or humans are. Everyone has a different opinion in these endless arguments but one this is for sure that “All this scientific development made us believe that this conflict will end badly”
Today the world is dominated by machines, some intellectuals’ think that enslave humans as a source of energy. As the world becomes increasingly computerized, the debate take place that will our society be able to adopt to the revolution of machines? There are two major player in this world right now, who are in a conflict with each other. If we talk in context of machines then there are Biological machines and Artificial machine.
Biological machines are human, what do humans have? Humans have Neurons, Brain for think, Ears for listen, Eyes for see, Legs for walk, and Hands for touching things. They go to school for learning, they have goals they enhance their living styles, thinking. On the other hand we have artificial machines, which we can take as robots or also machines in general term. What do machines have? Machines are equipped with transistors, they have computers, microphone to listen, Cameras to see.
Machines help humans a lot in almost every field of life. Let take mobile phone for example, it completely changed the behavior of communication. The communication, which used to take almost a month to complete now it can be done within few moments. Distance which used to take years to travel, can now be covered within few hours. Same thing is in almost every field of life, whether we look at industries, or we look at military, wherever you’ll go you will meet a machine.
Question really get in our mind that, is machine got way more efficient than humans? When we get to the comparison between humans and machines, we have different challengers.
Neurons Vs Transistors:
We can see human brain is consist of neurons. There are almost 200 billion neurons in human brains. According to scientific research single neuron can get connected to ten thousand other neurons passing signals to each other. As a computer estimate it processes with a speed of 10,000 GB per second. Approximately 32 trillion interconnections are made between these neurons. These cells consume 6-10 joules per second in every operation. Major feature of brain is its learning capability. Human brain can learn from its own surroundings and from its experiences.
On the other hand we have transistors with us, transistors are a miniature electronic component, which is likely used to save data or make memory. In this part it can store data up to 1 billion bytes in RAM and trillion of byte in disk. The smallest size of the single transistor is 20 nm. Transistors consume 10-16 joules per second on every operation. The major functionality of transistors is its programming capability.
Basic differences between neurons and transistors are shown in a table down below.
As we can see, there is a tough match between these two. As we start from their size so transistor are now a days thousand time smaller than neurons, same is the case with speed. Transistors are way faster in speed as compare to human brains. We humans do have an edge in the concentration, our brain have round about 200 billion neurons, on the other hand biggest chip as for now contain 10-20 billion transistors. When it comes to connections, we are still leading, our neurons have almost 30 trillion+ connections and other party has 20 billion connections through internet. Single neuron can be connected to at most ten thousands of other neurons which help us in learning and thinking.

Brain Vs Computer:
This is very much difficult to determine the actual memory capacity of brain. Human brain can store data up to approximately 2.5 million GB or you can say 256 Zettabytes (ZB). This will only happened when man is physically and mentally fit. As for the laymen, memory capacity falls to 20-100 terabytes. When it comes to processing power, human brains can perform 10 trillion floating-point operations per second. When it comes to the power consumption our brain only take 20 watts.
As we move to our next player, Computer has the memory capacity of 500 terabyte with the processing power of 10 billion floating points per second. They average computer consume 20kW of power.
|Capacity||Up to 100 TB||500 TB|
When we compare both opponents, humans have less memory capacity but when we go other way computer can store 5 times more data than a man. Biological machine have 1000 times more processing power than man made machines. When it comes to power consumption brain only takes 20W of power and computer takes 200kW, 10,000 times more than a human brain.
The main difference, in the past, has been that computer works in stich way, computers have processing unit in which data came in and get processed but in the other side, brain have thousands of thousands of processing unit which are the neuron, and they perform all the processing. The biggest advantage of the brain is massive parallelism. Many functionalities of daily life can be perform in a single time. Let’s take an example where a man is walking can talking with someone on a phone. How many functionalities is man perform at that time? If we started counting so he is performing round about 10 major activities at a same time.
The one of latest processor as for now is Graphcore IPU which have 7000 processors and RAM of 350MB. It was a largest chip in the world having inch a side. Now we also have Intel Core i9-9900K for daily personal computer.
So as we see all the data, we can easily say that humans are more efficient than machines. Machines might be powerful in strength and caring load, but they can’t think by their own. Brains can perform several of task parallel to each other, on the other hand machines has a certain limit. Humans are better than machines.
